Lift & Shift Migration of Application to AWS for IMO

IMO, a leading healthcare data management organization was looking to control high infrastructure and licensing costs, reduce manual intervention in backup management while ensuring high availability as their business scaled. They decided to migrate their existing on-premises infrastructure and 3rd party licensed database serving ~40 applications to AWS. IMO partnered with CitiusTech to re-platform the database to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL by leveraging the AWS Data Migration Service (DMS). Bi-directional replication of data between the 3rd party licensed database and the new AWS Aurora PostgreSQL database was carried out using Golden gate.

The applications were migrated to AWS EC2 instances using Lift and Shift strategy. Along with implementing a CI/CD deployment pipeline, the IMO and CitiusTech teams implemented AWS Autoscaling and Application Load Balancer (ALB). AWS CloudTrail and CloudWatch were implemented to track API’s and log errors respectively. IMO was able to achieve reduction in their annual infrastructure bill with this migration activity. Maintenance activities such as database backups, patching upgrades to database and application servers were automated after migration to AWS.

Build a Medical Data Lake for easy access and on-demand analysis for Alcon

Alcon was looking to implement a ForeSight Medical Data Repository that will hold data from multiple data sources, and provision data for easy access and on-demand analysis. The proposed Medical Data Lake would avoid missing out on business opportunities and provide highly useful optimization insights. The vision for the platform was to provide best-in-class secure and scalable medical data lake to enable role-based secure data consumption by multiple users and services.

CitiusTech helped build a data pipeline by leveraging the AWS cloud analytics services as per the existing ForeSight data lake and its best practices and security standards, additionally handling the PHI/PII data and consent management. Leveraged AWS services like AWS Glue, AWS Athena, AWS Lake formation etc. to implement the centralized data lake. CitiusTech implemented the development in phases to align with Client’s roadmap and recommended practices.

The solution is a central data repository for R&D. It enables automated data pipeline between Medical Data Lake and use case applications, thus provisioning derived/formulated values in the Medical Data Lake for analytical use cases. The data version control ensures efficient management and use of data. A Data De-identification Tool was developed to secure sensitive PII/PHI Data.
