VAULTASSIST CASE STUDY: SUPPORTING DIABETES MANAGEMENT
USING HEALTHVAULT
CitiusTech developed the connectivity for
supporting a diabetes program at a large hospital network,
using Microsoft HealthVault. The application acts as the
bridge between HealthVault and the hospital system.
It fetches Blood Glucose Measurement of the patients in
cohort from HealthVault, converts the data type into a HL7
message (ORU^R01), which is subsequently sent to the
hospital’s interface engine over MLLP.

|
The overall workflow is described below: |
|
|
- Patient uploads his/her blood glucose data to Microsoft
HealthVault using blood glucose monitor provided by the
hospital
- The application gets the patient data in cohort from the
hospital system
- At a pre-defined schedule, the application connects to
patient’s HealthVault accounts and reads the patient data
from HealthVault
- The application then generates an HL7 message (ORU^R01)
and sends it to the interface engine on a specific port
using MLLP
The application is implemented as a Windows Service using
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and consists of a scheduler
service and a configuration application. It is installed
within the hospital and connects to HealthVault webservice
using the HealthVault .NET SDK.
